When a Ridgewood family built their dream backyard oasis, they commissioned a one-of-a-kind glass mosaic feature that transforms their pool into a work of art. The design—a vibrant underwater garden with koi fish, water lilies, and flowing forms—required 18 months from concept to completion. Working with a local artist's original painting, we translated the design into a technical mosaic map specifying over 50,000 individual glass tiles in 147 different colors. Each tile was hand-placed using specialized pool-grade adhesives that withstand constant water exposure and chemical treatment. The mosaic covers the pool floor from the shallow end steps through the main swimming area, with additional accent panels on the pool walls. Iridescent glass tiles in the fish scales and lily petals catch sunlight, creating dancing reflections throughout the day. The artist supervised the installation to ensure color gradients and artistic details were preserved. The family's pool has become a neighborhood landmark and the backdrop for countless memories. It demonstrates that functional spaces can also be canvas for true artistry.
