About
About this project
The heart of this Summit kitchen renovation was a show-stopping 11-foot island featuring a Taj Mahal quartzite waterfall countertop. The homeowners—avid entertainers who host holiday gatherings for extended family—needed a surface that could withstand heavy use while serving as a stunning centerpiece. Taj Mahal quartzite offers the ethereal beauty of marble with significantly greater durability—perfect for a busy family kitchen. The waterfall design wraps the stone down both ends of the island, showcasing the material's subtle gold veining from every angle. We carefully matched the veining at the mitered edges, creating the illusion of a continuous stone form. The 3cm thick slab accommodates an integrated undermount sink and features a book-matched pattern where the two halves meet. The polished finish catches light beautifully, while the dense quartzite resists the etching that would plague marble. Coordinating quartzite backsplash panels complete the installation. The island has become the gathering spot for everything from homework sessions to wine nights.
